What is 10B38 Steel?
10B38 Steel is a boron treated medium-carbon steel alloy, designated by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). Because this particular grade of steel has been treated with Boron, it has an increased hardenability – the depth to which it has been hardened following heat-treatment. Due to its unique chemistry, 10B38 steel has the heat-treatable qualities of a high-carbon steel, while maintaining ductility and durability. This makes it a cost-effective alternative to some high-carbon steel alloys.
Properties
10B38 Alloy Steel typically contains anywhere between 0.0005% to 0.003% Boron. This allows for a consistent hardness, ductility, and less risk of fracture due to impact.
SAE 10B38 Industries & Applications
Due to its unique properties and cost effectiveness when compared to higher carbon steels, 10B38 finds uses in a number of different industries & applications, such as:
- Agriculture
- Lawn and Garden
- Automotive
- Window Hardware
- Industrial Chain
- Construction
- Fasteners
