Hot Rolled Steel Coil
Hot rolled steel has been rolled at high temperature from a cast steel slab more than two inches (50 mm) thick into a hot rolled steel coil as thin as 1/16 inches 90.2 mm thick. Because the steel is rolled hot, and the reduction from slab to coil is great, the coil surfaces are typically rough and slightly oxidized unless they are further processed. Plain hot rolled steel coil is generally used where very precise shapes and tolerances are not required. Hot rolled steel grades are typically less expensive than cold rolled steel because, except for pickling when required to remove surface scale, they are not processed after they are hot rolled.
